Mandate
Happy Pictures fills a palpable void in Canada’s film industry by focusing on complex immigrant, first and second-generation stories that would otherwise be untold. By crafting nuance and rich depictions of underrepresented communities, we strive to push the film industry to take the lives and stories of those on the margins seriously and change how we see each other.
As filmmakers, we appreciate the power of cinema to illuminate different perspectives. Happy Pictures creates intimate films that are emotionally motivated and driven by the relationships of its characters. We are interested in the human scale with all its immensity and vulnerability. We take our role as racialized women filmmakers seriously. We plan on bringing our communities to the proverbial cinematic table with the stories we choose to tell.
